Table Mountain Challenge Rebooted
TABLE MOUNTAIN CHALLENGE “REBOOTED” 2020 – Year 16!
TMC Solo 43km, TMC Duo Teams (Leg 1 = 27km, Leg 2 = 16km), TMC lite 16km
Start to Blockhouse (0 – 10kms)
Starting at our regular field, of Jan van Riebeeck High School, in Tamboerskloof (which provides ample space and off street parking), you ascend the side of Signal Hill, above the German School, turning left onto Signal Hill road and descending to Kloof Nek crossing (marshalled).
You take the Original clockwise direction around Table Mountain, ascending Kloof Corner trail to the Contour path, and then following the Contour Path to the Blockhouse, via lower traverse.
Blockhouse to Rooikat Ravine to Constantia Neck (10 – 21kms)
From the Blockhouse, you take the forested contour path all the way to Rooikat Ravine trail, where you turn Right, and ascend this scenic 2km loop. Once the trail has descended, you cross the contour path (now also a busy mountain bike trail) and use the lower forestry road to reach Constantia Neck Reservoir, avoiding the busy carpark.
Constantia Neck to Suikerbossie, through Orangekloof (21 – 27kms)
Continuing from the Reservoir on the marked route through Orangekloof, to the ladder, at the fenceline, you reach Myburghs Ravine, and the Contour trail to Suikerbossie Restaurant. Easy running.
Suikerbossie Restaurant CP and Start of TMC lite
Suikerbossie Restaurant have jumped in to assist this year’s TMC. Solo runners will have a feed station and rest stop, before continuing on. Duo Teams, will hand over the baton here, so Leg 1 is 27 km long, and Leg 2 is 16km, but a bit tougher. TMC lite (16km) will Start at Suikerbossie.
Suikerbossie to Kasteelspoort (27 – 37kms)
A tough 10kms awaits, including the ascent of Hout Bay corner, and Llandudno Ravine. Once on top, views abound, and you follow the well walked trail across the spine of the 12 Apostles to the summit of Kasteelspoort. Kasteelspoort is the easiest route down the mountain, and involves large boulder steps, take it easy.
Kasteelspoort base, Pipe track to Finish (37 – 43kms)
The Pipe Track is a gentle road trail to Kloof Nek crossing. You then head up the start of Signal Hill road, and immediately step left onto the trail, opposite TMNP offices. This takes them above the road, past Vida Café truck, and on to near the Kramat. At the Kramat, swing back to the road, and take the trail down to the German School fence, around the flats and back to Van Riebeeck fields Finish line.
